Second College Grant
"In 1789 the New Hampshire legislature provided Dartmouth College the first grant, a piece of land...in the upper Connecticut River Valley. This was a mechanism for funding higher education... College founders sold off the land to support construction on the current site of Dartmouth Row... By 1792, when the College needed additional funds, it petitioned the legislature for another grant of land...the legislature agreed provided strict conditions....(it) now appears on maps as an official township called Second College Grant."

"I do recall one day when we were fishing the upper Dead Diamond River. It was a particularly bright sunny day. I had had enough of fishing for a spell and set out my watercolor paraphernalia, which was stored in a ziplock bag in a compartment of my fishing vest. I was just getting started when Billy came upon me. Apprehending the scene he stated “How sublime!” I will always remember that moment and those words.
...one of the great things about painting is the ability to recall all the sensations of the painting experience. Years later, the light, the weather, the sounds, the place—all come back vividly to memory."
